Ruminations from the Garden

Don Henry Ford, Jr.

2010 was an eventful year for us here at Speir Publishing.

Don Henry Ford, Jr., author of the critically acclaimed "Contrabando: Confessions of a Drug-Smuggling Texas Cowboy," has signed up with us to publish his latest book.
"Ruminations from the Garden" is a tale of life, politics, love, society, addiction, the future of our country, and so much more, all taken from the viewpoint of a cowboy, ex-con, ex-drug smuggler, rancher and farmer.

Don Ford is the son of an oilman and knows firsthand how oil is used to do everything in our society. As a farmer he sees how dependent we have become on oil to produce our food. From the tires on the tractors to the fuel for those tractors to the pesticides used to help the crops grow pest-free, all are dependent on oil. Knowing that oil is a limited resource, Don forsaw a future where we would have to get back to our roots to be able to survive, and so began planting a garden without the use of oil-dependent tools or pesticides.

It just about killed him, but in the process taught him some very important lessons, which he gladly passes on to us. But "Ruminations from the Garden" is so much more than that. This is a book about life on a ranch, raising race horses, raising cattle, raising crops. This is a book about a love for nature, a book about the hard things we must do sometimes in this life. This is a book about addiction as well, everything from oil to drugs to sex. More than anything, this book is a warning to all mankind to wake up to the oncoming crisis before it's too late.
